Dear Budget Conscious Mama,
You know those shows on T.V. where a lady takes 400 coupons, purchases 80 Gatorade bottles, 400 packs of gum and 30 slabs of ribs and then somehow magically she makes money when after the check out?! What in the world and how does that happen? OK, I’m not an extreme coupon-er but I do love a good sale, a never expiring coupon and a website that offers promo codes I can always use for a discount. I can’t say that I am a pro at extreme coupon shopping but I have learned some tips and tricks that I think any mom should use when shopping, plus anyone wants to save a little money when they shop!
Never shopped with coupons? That’s OK! It’s easy to get started and coupons are actually everywhere around you already. First make sure that you can stock up on coupons from a variety of locations – check your local newspapers for inserts that appear on a weekly or biweekly basis. Magazines are usually full of manufacturer coupons that you can clip and snip for savings. Also checking in store and on store shelves can provide valuable product and receipt coupons that are of value and can possibly be used right at checkout.
There are also plenty of other coupon locations that you can snag some great coupons and many times these are overlooked. Checking junk mailers that appear in your mailbox so browse and clip before tossing. Emailing or writing directly to manufacturers can offer high value coupons that are sent through the mail or emailed direct to you. It never hurts to ask, right? Store mailings and frequent shopper cards can reward you with special coupon mailings that are customized to your purchase habits. It’s a great way to get coupons for produce and other items that you rarely find coupons for. Also, check your favorite products! Many times I have looked at the back of my oatmeal or cereal boxes and clipped coupons that I used for my next purchases.
In the age of technology, who can forget all the digital coupons and websites that are available for so many to use! Many store and grocery websites that I personally use offer online digital coupons that I can click from the store site directly to my frequent shopper card. Also, stores can use certain Apps that offer discounts or coupons for shoppers to use in store. Downloading these Apps can offer big savings at checkout when you scan the App barcode. When I am shopping I always check the Cartwheel App for my Target Purchases and go online to the Winn Dixie website to select my in-store digital coupons.
One of my absolute favorite websites that I have been using lately is EveryDeal.com . I try to check the site before doing any online shopping for any discounts, coupons or promo codes that I can use when purchasing items from websites. The reason I always to go EveryDeal.com is they personalize my results by my interests or shopping sites so I don’t have to sift through tons of coupons I will never use or sites that I never visit. This makes for this mama to have a one stop shop platform that I can use to get my coupons and promos quickly so that I can do my shopping during nap time and check out before the kids wake up. That’s. The. Best.
Make sure to check out any of the above options to maximize your savings and find the best deals when you are using coupons to shop. It never hurts to save a pretty penny and just think how much more you can shop when you are getting the best deals on the block!
